The Classics

Well, the past two nights I have watched two classic films, Rebel Without a Cause and The Hustler. Ironically, both movies have the two most badass actors ever to grace the big screen. James Dean is the epitome of an outlaw biker, and Paul Newman is as cool as the other side of the pillow. Actors aside, I love the messages that both movies give; while differing in details, both place empahsis on sticking to your guns and following your beliefs and staying true to yourself, no matter what the cost. I would have to say that I like The Hustler better, but I could just be saying that now because I just finished watching it; however, it does seem to have a more fluid plotline (the characters do not fall in love in less than 24 hours), and the death in it seems to be more tragic than in RWOC, thereby more firmly solidifiying the final triumph. The victory is never as sweet without the pain.
